Why do you want to connect to my vehicle?

We work with utilities nationwide to monitor electric vehicle charging patterns and help customers understand their electric vehicle costs. Electric vehicles are virtually always cleaner than gas combustion engines, however, compared to household appliances, vehicles use a lot of electricity. Utilities need to monitor electric vehicle charging to understand what infrastructure updates they need to make to the grid. In some cases, utilities want to promote electric vehicle charging when energy demand on the grid is lower.

What should I expect when I connect my vehicle?

Once you connect your vehicle, there is nothing more you need to do. Our system will collect charging data in the background.

Is my data secure?

At Rolling Energy Resources, we follow the highest standards for cybersecurity. We encrypt data, restrict user access, and use firewalls to secure your data. For users interested in more technical details of our security, we only allow access to our database through specific IP addresses, use a VPN when accessing data, we encrypt data at rest, use DDoS protection through Amazon Shield and use secure coding practices. We use Amazon Web Services which enables all modern security features, and we meet compliance with SSAE 18 SOC 2 Type 2 or ISO27001 standards.

How do I stop participating?

To stop your participation, email us at support@rollingenergyresources.com and let us know that you no longer wish to participate. Once a team member unsubscribes you, you will receive an email confirming you are no longer participating.

What data do you collect from my vehicle and why?

Below we list each piece of data we receive from your vehicle, on which time interval, and why.

Battery Percent and Range Remaining

We capture your vehicle’s battery percent and range remaining at 15, 30 or 60 minute intervals, depending on your program. We use this to find increases in battery percent that indicate a charge is occurring.

Charge Status

We verify that a charge is occurring by using charge status, which tells us if your vehicle is plugged in. We check this whenever we see an increase in your battery percentage.

Odometer

We collect odometer data every two hours. We use this to understand your electric fuel efficiency.

Location

We collect location only when charging, which helps utilities understand when and where people charge their EVs, and determine which utility territory the charge is occurring in.

What happens to my data when I stop participation?

Once you email us, we will unsubscribe your vehicle. At that point, our system will no longer collect data from your vehicle. The system also anonymizes all past data and removes all personally identifiable user and vehicle information.
